This is Mathias’ first census listing without his wife Paulina, who died sometime before the enumeration on 30 Apr 1910. Three of his youngest daughters still live with him. He is listed as living in White River, which is near Sanborn and Ashland. This is either his normal Sanborn location (but enumerated as White River), or he moved a bit to the northeast.
He had not yet retired from farming as he is listed as a farmer on a “General Farm.”
