This is my great-grandmother, Emily (TROKA) ZALEWSKI along with her first two children: my grandfather, Richard ZALEWSKI and Irene (ZALEWSKI) LUTZENBERGER. I’m not exactly sure on the year, but it looks as though my Grandpa is around 1 or 2 years old, so it’s probably in about 1922-23.

Tell Me Thursday: Uncle One-Arm
This is a photo of Jacob HUIZEL (middle) and two unknown women. Jacob is my wife’s great-great uncle. The reason for the “One-Arm” title is that we found an earlier photo of Jacob and on the back it just said “Uncle Jake” and under it was written “(one arm)”. There are a few photos like this one, but it’s always hard to tell if he does only have one arm. If I would take a guess, it would be his right arm since you can see his left one. Family mysteries, huh?
Tell Me Thursday: Firmenich Girls
”]This is a photo of the 3 youngest daughters of Mathias & Pauline (THOMPSON) FIRMENICH; Ida, Edna, and Claire. As it is noted, I’m assuming this photo was taken in the Summer of 1912, which would be two years after the death of their mother, Pauline. It was probably taken in the Ashland/Sanborn, Wisconsin area since they are located there in the 1905 Wisconsin Census.
Tell Me Thursday
This is a photo of my grandparents, Richard & Mary Jane (Corrigan) ZALEWSKI from August 1947.
Tell Me Thursday: Corrigan
This photo is of three of the Corrigan sons of Thomas & Emma Jane Corrigan. Maurice (my great-grandfather), Edwin, and Hank. Maurice passed away in 1990 at the age of 91. Hank passed away in 1986 at the age of 79. Edwin was the Corrigan that lived the longest out of all 9 children. I met him a few times at family reunions. He passed away only a few years ago in 2005 at the age of 95.
Another photo from my wife’s family collection. This is a photo of her grandparents. Her late grandfather, Keith Moran, and her grandmother Barb (Collins). You can tell that Keith worked a lot with his hands since he has huge arms.
Tell Me Thursday – Zalewski Family
This is another photo I scanned recently from a Zalewski Genealogy booklet. Back row: Mary (Gierszewski), My great-great-grandmother Anna (Lindner), my great-grandfather Joseph & Martha (Strelka) — Front row: Frances (Cybela), Helen (Stroinski) & Angeline (Pierzchalski) – Milwaukee, Summer 1925
Tell Me Thursday: 4th of July
This is one of the latest photos that I scanned. It was a copy inside of a book I got from a fellow Zalewski researcher a few years back. For some reason, I never got to scanning the photos from it.
This photo is from July 4th, 1913. Back row is Frank Gierszewski and Edwin Cybela. Front row is Mary (Zalewski) Gierszewski and Frances (Zalewski) Cybela. Frances and Mary are my great-great-aunts. Frank and Mary later changed their surname to Giersch.
Tell Me Thursday: Joe & Clara Troka
This is a photo of my great-great-grandparents, Joe & Clara (SZULTA) TROKA on their 50th wedding anniversary. The date of this photo would be somewhere around 29 Jan 1944 since they were married in 1894. They were married at St. Hedwig’s Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There is a very nice writeup and history for St. Hedwig’s at Wikipedia. Here is a closer photo from the “Polsih Churches of Milwaukee” website.
Tell Me Thursday: Richard & Jenny
This week’s photo is of my grandfather, Richard Zalewski, and his friend Jenny Strelka. There is no year mentioned, but Richard looks to be maybe 4 or 5 years old, so I would guess 1924-25. I’m assuming it’s also in Milwaukee, Wisconsin since Richard grew up there. I don’t see a Jenny Strelka in my family tree f ile, but I’m assuming it may be my grandfather’s cousin since his aunt Martha Zalewski had married John Strelka.
Tell Me Thursday: Boys Being Boys
This is a photo from my wife’s family tree. The boy on the right is her grandfather, Keith Moran. The other boys are listed as being Ralph and Lyle, who I assume are family but I don’t have all of the information. There is another photo of these three boys making more faces. The location is somewhere is southwestern Wisconsin where Keith grew up.
